New Browser on the Block

Thursday, October 27, 2005

If you read our blog quite regularly (probably no one) then you won't have failed to notice that I read the BBC news technology section daily and blog anything I think worth a read (when I remember).

Today I found an article describing a new browser and after scanning the article it cited features that had me interested straight away.

It's called Flock and - while it's only available as a "pre-release" - it's already achieved the business equivalent of headlining at Glastonbury: namely, an article in Business Week.

BBC NEWS | Programmes | Newsnight | Internet Part II: Return of the geeks?

If you read the above article you'll find a much better description of what the browser is about, but in short it's all about sharing.

I'm blogging this directly from the browser. The quote above was created by dragging a section of text from the BBC article to a blog it button and hey presto it's part of my blog entry.

It's far to early for me to make any great judgement call as to whether it's any good or not and given that it's beta version 0.4.9 it's probably very buggy and not very secure. I like the ideas behind it though and it's got to be worth a play.

For more information on the Flock browser please visit their site.

NB: I had to revert to blogging this via blogger in the end because Flock didn't appear to want to work properly. Guess there's plenty of work still to do :)
