Netscape 8.0 Released

Thursday, May 19, 2005

Netscape 8.0 has been released today and is available as a Free download.

Rather interestingly it claims to allow users to be able to switch between Firefox and Internet Explorer and is described as a "Hybrid" browser. As a web developer I'm continuously switching between browsers to check designs work in both. Perhaps this is the answer to my prayers?

So is netscape going to win the browser wars by sitting as a go between?

Obviously I'm going to download it and find out. I'll let you know what I think if I remember.

Google Toolbar Updated

Sunday, May 15, 2005

The Google toolbar has been updated to include;

SpellCheck
Check your spelling whenever you type in web forms
WordTranslator
Translate English words into other languages
AutoLink (US only)
Turn street addresses into links to online maps

Personally I haven't used the Google toolbar since I started using Fire Fox but for anyone using IE it's probably quite useful

Latest FireFox Release Fixes Critical Flaws

Thursday, May 12, 2005

If ever there was an illustration of how Open Source software can beat off commercial competition then the speed of the latest FireFox release is surely it. The flaws were found 1 week and reported 2 days ago on UK news sites. Today we have the latest stable release that fixes the problem.

Would that happen as quick in the commercial sector?

I think not, they'd probably have just about scheduled in a meeting to discuss the issue by now.

Congratulations to the good people behind FireFox for,

A) Reporting the found flaws immediately and advising people how best to protect themselves
B) For fixing the problem so damn quickly

I've been accepted as an IStock Photographer

Monday, May 09, 2005

I've bigged up IStock Photo in a previous blog entry because I think it's a great affordable resource for graphic designers and a fantastic way to share photos. Now I've been accepted as a photographer which means I can upload images to share with others and gain credits or earn revenue.

I only have a couple of images uploaded at the moment but will hopefully expand on that in the next year.

You can see the 2 images I have uploaded at,

Google eyes better news searches

13 days since my last post

Well it's 13 days since I last posted and so lucky or unlucky for some here I am posting again. Work has been hectic hence the lack of posts.

The Place Hotel Manchester
is a site build we did a while back. They have now been enabled with Contribute and will be able to look after the content theirselves.

MDA Commercial Property Development has also been launched.

Heaven SPA hair and beauty salon in Didsbury Manchester is also well under way to be completed now and the first phase should go live within the next 2 weeks.
